Properly storing and organizing your jewelry is important to keep your pieces clean and in good condition. Many options are on the market to help you find the perfect storage solution for costume and precious jewelry pieces. I have several different solutions for my pieces including jewelry boxes with anti-tarnish silver cloth, bracelet and ring dishes, and boxes for my more casual bits of jewelry.
Storage solutions range from the DIY to sleek and modern. Some clever DIY ideas include picture frames with wire strings or chicken wire to hold earrings and necklaces. Decorative ceramic pulls attached to the wall creating a fun place to hang necklaces. Decorative rods attached to the wall to create pretty bars for hanging necklaces and bracelets are another popular DIY solution.
Jewelry Storage and Display Ideas
In the event you are not feeling the pull of another DIY project there are many different solutions ready to hold your pieces.
Fine jewelry should always be stored in a closed container protected from dirt and dust. Sterling silver pieces benefit from anti-tarnish fabrics and strips. Precious gems are best kept in a well padded and lined container to protect them from damage.
The most common jewelry storage solution is the jewelry box. It is found in a multitude of configurations, sizes, and features. It is a lovely solution to contain all of your jewelry pieces and lined with anti-tarnish fabric it will keep silver pieces clean.
Outside the Box
Less traditional, but equally attractive and effective, include necklace trees, trays, busts, stacking canisters, and objects not traditionally for jewelry storage. One of my favorite places to source non-traditional storage and organization pieces is the discount retailer. Using my imagination I repurpose many items I find from their intended use to something else. Another terrific source for inexpensive storage items is the local thrift shop. Often items can be painted, stained, glued, or altered to your purpose.
This is a lovely necklace and bracelet tree in acrylic and chrome. I love the simple, sleek design of this tree. The necklaces and bracelets hanging from this piece would almost create an art piece on its own.
These lovely padded pieces protect your jewelry pieces. The benefit to these types of storage options is the ability to see you jewelry selection quickly without going through different drawers to decide which pieces to wear.
I really like these clear stacking containers. They have “lids” they protect your jewelry from dust and dirt with bits of felt on the bottom. The clear glass allows you to quickly see what you would like to wear. I think it would be great to use etching cream from your local craft store and customize any glass container with a design – monogram, flowers, vines, or whatever suits you.
These trays are food service ware. I thought they were perfect for dresser top jewelry organization. Similar to a ring dish, trays are terrific for containing your everyday jewelry pieces. Trays of this size are not too large or small for the top of a dresser or even a bathroom vanity.
Like the trays, these dishes are meant for the kitchen table. Not in my house! I love small, decorative dishes like these for rings, bracelets, and casual necklaces. They are a pretty way to control the jewelry without cluttering a dresser or bathroom.
Just like the items above, tea cups and saucers are a clever way to hold jewelry. Discount retailers often have a nice selection of tea cups and saucers and demitasse sets.
A multitude of jewelry storage options are available today at a minimal cost. Using your imagination you can customize a storage solution or repurpose an item you have on hand to keep your jewelry under control.
