Pinterest boards are a fabulous tool to find your personal style. The boards are more than a dumping ground of random ideas. Rather they are virtual bulletin boards. Using your Pinterest boards strategically will help you find your home decor, outdoor spaces, personal fashion style, teaching style, and even food style.
Use Pinterest to Find Your Personal Style
Start by organizing your Pinterest boards with forethought. Without planning your boards in advance they could end up cluttered and disjointed.
Create boards that are specific and well-defined. For example I created a Home Decor, Front Porch Ideas, and Craft Studio Inspirations. These boards represent areas of my home that I plan to restyle in the near future. I pinned ideas into each board representative of what I liked or that caught my eye.
Before pinning, you can make notes in the description box. You may want to note what you find appealing about the image – the color scheme, the ingredients of a dish, layout, accessories, etc. If you write a description and take notes at the time of pinning it makes it easier to check your style.
Look for Trends
Review your boards and look for trends. My Home Decor boards show something very surprising — I love a white or light interior. I really thought I disliked white as bland and boring, however, based on my pins for home decor I really do like a light interior. The Home Decor board also reveals I love a French Country, Rustic style. I am using the Master Bedroom Retreat board to redecorate my master bedroom too.
Find Your Fashion Style
Your board will also show recurring fashion style themes. After pinning a few things you will see a consistent theme emerging; perhaps it is boho, high fashion, color schemes, a particular piece (such as a blazer or scarves) repeating.
Use your Pinterest Board to Dream
My Favorite Places board chronicles where I would love to visit. It is always good to have a dream.
Clearly I want to travel to an exotic location that is green, lush, and near the water. Other pins show old-world, rustic locations such as Florence, Italy.
Pinterest as a Tool
Pinterest is a fantastic tool to find your style, inspiration, or learn new skills. Pins are added every day increasing the opportunity to learn something new or find inspiration. Into Mind has a wonderful post about using Pinterest to find your style.
